About
Jared Harbison
I am a Senior Software Engineer who builds practical product software: the kind that has to be understandable by users, maintainable by future engineers, and honest about the constraints it lives inside.
My recent work has centered on Ruby on Rails applications with mature domains: marketplaces, onboarding flows, partner tools, admin workflows, content systems, and user-facing discovery experiences. I also work comfortably across React, Stimulus, SCSS, PostgreSQL, and the connective tissue between product decisions and implementation details.
At Dogly, I have worked as both a sole engineer and a technical partner to founders. That has meant moving between product planning, architecture, implementation, and delivery; making tradeoffs with incomplete information; and taking responsibility for what happens after a feature reaches production.
I tend to care most about the shape of the system. Controllers should stay thin. Domain behavior should have a clear home. Views should be readable. JavaScript should earn its place. Tests should cover the risk that actually matters.
Before software, I spent years leading high-volume retail teams and building operational programs. That experience still shapes how I work: I pay attention to the people using a system, communicate directly with stakeholders, and treat operational constraints as product inputs rather than afterthoughts.
Right now I am looking for opportunities where I can keep growing alongside strong engineers while contributing as someone who can build products end-to-end.
